About Human Services
In 2004 the Mifflin and Juniata County Commissioners entered into an agreement to combine the Human Services Departments for both counties. The Mifflin-Juniata County Human Services Department emerged and is the administering agency for several human service-related grants received by the counties. Some of these include the Human Services Development Fund (HSDF), Community Services Block Grant (CSBG), Homeless Assistance Program (HAP), Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP), The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), Medical Assistance Transportation Program (MATP), and the State Food Purchase Program (SFPP).
Recipients of funds from one or more of these sources include:
- The Abuse Network, Inc.
- YMCA Big Brothers/Big Sisters
- Community Child Care (SUMCD)
- Mifflin-Juniata Area Agency on Aging
- Tri-County Drug and Alcohol Commission
- The Salvation Army
- Shelter Services, Inc.
- Clear Concepts Counseling
- The LUMINA Center
- The Juniata County Food Pantry
- Radio Reading Program
- SUN Home Health Services
- Tuscarora Intermediate Unit
The Mifflin-Juniata County Human Services Department also works with the Departments within the county government on searching and applying for state and federal grant funds.
The Department initiated a needs assessment in 2004 for both Mifflin and Juniata Counties. Results of the Needs Assessment Project provide statistics and important information for managing Human Services in Mifflin and Juniata Counties.
